My credo
I need more sleep.
I want to do some off roading in my 2WD and as is it handles it pretty well, but I'm not sure if its a limited slip or not, but does anyone know where to get lockers for an 07?

Selectable or automatic?

If you do have a limited slip currently you'll need a new carrier anyways so you might as well go to a full selectable. Any 28 spline 8.8" locker will work.

I love the ARB on my 2wd. LOADS more capable.

When you can crawl underneath the rear and get the info off of the axle tag. Theres a chart on here that deciphers the codes. At least you will know wether or not you have a LSD before forging ahead..

Yea I'll check it

Okay so here's the code

V320A
55 88 6H10
And I can't find anything on it.
I know its an 8.8...
I checked the door code, it says axle 95 and if that's the axle than it's a 3.55 open
Also I looked at lockers, $450's the cheapest I found for the 8.8 28' spline. Anyone has any cheaper ones let me know.
Bout to drop $400 on exhaust so not really going to get it anytime soon.
Checked gear ratio for bigger tires while I was at it. I got 31", so I think I'll be good.

There should be just a bit more info on that axle tag, here's what it should look like:

The "55" you read on the axle tag would be consistent with the "3.55" door tag.

Some of those charts can be misleading depending on what they're basing their calculations on. Most of them use a 1:1 transmission ratio, and not an overdrive ratio. So if you're transmission has an overdrive you might want to consider stepping up to a 4.10 axle for 31's. Which shouldn't be too hard to source 2nd hand. You have the 4.0L, which might make things more bearable. But if you have an overdrive transmission that engine RPM number is going to be even lower.

I went all the way to 4.56 with a 235/75R15 tire (about 29"). Most have said I was F'n nuts to go that far, but honestly it works fantastic with my engine and what I use the truck for. My little 4 cylinder never had the power for overdrive with my old gears, so I had to keep it in 4th. I decided that was silly and when I built the new axle for it, I geared it low enough that it basically turned 5th gear into what 4th gear used to be and gained some extra starting grunt. Actually made the truck pretty enjoyable to drive.

What size tires do you have on it now out of curiosity?

Good to know before getting all skunked up in that axle lube.

They make lockers that will install inside your carrier without having to take out the center section (around $300). And as always there are a few good writeups on how to install them on here..:headbang: Gotta Love TRS!:D

the lockers that install in your carrier are generally made for Open carriers, which you have.. so you could do a lunchbox locker, just find one for the 28 spline 8.8.

The select-able lockers are EXPENSIVE, for a good reason. They are awesome. If I had the dough, I'd have a select-able in the front of mine... the autolocker is bad on ujoints and trying to turn in 4lo lol

A locker in the rear of a 2x will help a lot.
But as stated, if you want a locker it will require a carrier change.
Either a selectable locker, which new will run around $700 and up or a Detriot (auto locker) which runs around $600+ or find the open carrier that's being talk about and then pay around $300 for the Spider Gear replacement type.

No matter how,you look at it it going to run a few buck to get what you want unless you can buy used and then you are risking cracks or worn out units.

Luck

A lunchbox locker is your best bet and will do a world of wonder on a 2wd. FWIW, I'd do the locker before exhaust if your already going off road with it.

I'd look into the Powertrax No-Slip

265/70/15
And it's too late now, I'm already getting my exhaust done, but I will get a locker eventually.
