Been a while since I have been on the forums... last visited 3/22/14 wow.

Anyway I'm looking for ways to mount a 2m VHF antenna on my 93 2wd. I dont like the idea of them on the roof, so I was looking at mounting an antenna on the front fender. I'm also looking for the antenna its self. I read through the other thread but didnt want to high jack it any recommendations?

Thanks,

TBG

there is a distinct technical reason for mounting them in the center of the roof.
It is only coincidentally about looks and 99% about function

If you understand the relationship between the ground plane of the antenna and the propagation pattern that results, THE reason that people mount the antenna near the center of the roof is to achieve a symmetrical propagation, equal signal in all directions.

a Fender mounted antenna tends to create a directional lobe towards the center of the truck and a fairly large Null to the side. this is generally to be avoided.

Mounted to the rear edge of the roof (up through the dome light opening) creates a noticeable signal lobe forward in the direction of travel this can sometimes be useful...

On my supercab I have an NMO "Motorola" style mount up through the roof panel (and also through the reinforcement bar) up through the dome lamp location. This location places my 5/8 wavelength vertical antennas near the center of the roof as I could conveniently manage and additionally allowed as short cable run as I could practically manage to where I have my Icon IC-2410H radio mounted (I have an aluminum shelf that runs across the width of my cab level with the top of the windshield...My radio is mounted on top of this at the center basically where the display is easier to see without taking my eyes completely off the road...
