I was curious if anyone has tried to run 289 rods in a 2.9 before? the dimensions are pretty close with the 289 rods being 0.01" longer.

Do all the other measurements line up, like bore diameters?

Looks like the wrist pins on the 2.9L are 0.033" larger and the Rod Journals are 0.003" larger on the 2.9L. So it would be a little bit of machining to each rod, but it might be possible

The only reason I can see, since the length difference is insignificant, is if he is rebuilding a 2.9 and already has a set of 289 rods laying around.

Probably lots more options for aftermarket 289 rods too.

Mostly because I like to burn my money on pointless upgrades. The same reason i'm doing a $1000 brake upgrade on my Nissan that's only worth $1500 lol
