Was just going to buy a locker for my 94 b4000. Its 28 spline. The only 28 spline lockers I can find is the spartan. Which I want but its only for open carriers. I have l/s. And a grizzly which is for 4.56 and down. By down im assuming 5.13 would work.

Whats the deal. Do I need to swap to an explorer 8.8? I thought i had found a locker for my rear end before

Input plz

If your gonna put the money into a locker, you should probably upgrade to the 31-spline first, regardless. No point in locking this, then breaking it, then upgrading, then having to get a new locker.

While you are at it you can get that open carrier you'll need, regardless of locker brand.

If you're looking for something that replaces the spider gears you're out of luck. I don't believe anyone makes anything for the L/S carriers. If you really want one you'll need to swap out to a regular open diff.

No carrier breaks on the 8.8. 2.72 to 6.something-or-other, all the same carrier.

Lock-right makes one, I believe Aussie does.

Bunt since you'll have to swap out axle's or replace your differential, Look into an Eaton e-locker. It's a little bit pricier, but having full control is really nice.

Alright. I think there's an explorer sitting at the family jy. Ill have to see if its got open

Thanks

Just remember you'll need to move the spring perches and re-weld them back on and also weld shock mounts on. Explorer 8.8 swaps aren't as bolt in as people make them out to be.

Take it from someone who's done it.

I used the ruff stuff axle swap kit for my explorer axle swap. Works great!

So the 8.8 I was looking at has busted teeth off the ring gear. Jy wants 200 for one. And shop wants 300 to put one in by the time I did gears and locker I could go half ton. What other options do I have for the 28 spline? I dont wanna go full size yet but I do want it locked. Im only gonna be running 33s any ways. A detroit replaces he whole unit right? Or I could buy an open carrier and get a spartan. The limited slip in mine is toast.

I can't stop bragging about ruff stuff products. If you can weld or can get weld work done get the ruff stuff kit and do an explorer axle. It has held up to rough abuse and h1 wheels/tires for me without any problems. Plus there are lots of locker options for the 31 spline 8.8.

Do you mean the shop wants $300 to install an explorer rear axle?

Other than getting a few shock tabs and some spring plates welded on, you can do it all yourself with a simple ratchet set. I would never pay a shop to replace a whole axle.

Ya I told him all that needs done is weld on tabs and perches its simpke and he wants 300. Which I ciuld buy a welder and do it myself for that. Which I might do

Called around got some quotes for 50 $ I just gotta mark where the welds need to be

I've never used them but there are guys on craigslist that will come to you and do weld work. Just get the axle under the truck and everything set so all they have to do is weld the perches/tabs. Measure 2x so that you don't end up having it redone later.
