I have 28/7.5 in 1986 4cyl stick ranger with 31.5 in. tires-i do not want to change running gear .what i was wondering is there a lunchbox locker that will work with 4.56's and a 28/7.5 combo or is 4.10 the lowest that will work ?

I don't think anyone is making D28 gears anymore, but I won't swear to it. 4.10 was offered factory in some trucks so you could try to find a set of those in a wrecking yard.
The Lockright was the only D28 locker ever offered.

Though I think putting any money at all into such a tiny axle will never be worth it, especially when the D35 is direct bolt-in affair aside from shortening the driveshaft an inch or so.

leave the front open, even if you do go D35... with the trails around our area you need to steer, lock the rear...

you should be able to get a lunchbox locker to work in the 7.5 with 4.56's, might have to notch a crosspin a little

yes, gears are still made for the d28/7.5. just had 4.56's put in mine early this year. might find an Aussie locker for it or a LockRight for the front. mine is open as i have a Detroit in the back which is plenty for my needs.

you can use a lockrite and 4.56 in a 7.5 you just have to take a little bit off of one of the ring gear teeth to get the cross pin in. I think there is somthing in the tech library or something. I know people have told me about this if you have done this speak up.

Please speak up

Igot a d28 3rd member witith detroit locker and 4.56's for the front and 4.56 gears for the rear. so any locker or gear install tips would be great!

is there a benefit to leaving the front diff. open if you would like a little more agile in the trails?
