Went out to start the truck this morning...cranked three times and no fire.

Went back in the house to warm up my frozen hands and nose (I can put my hands in my pocket, but not my nose)...came out about an hour later and the temperature was a balmy -21...removed the breather cap, squirted Quick Start in the carb, closed the butterfly (choke not hooked up) and she started up on the second crank. I had to idle it for about 20 minutes before it started blowing heat...normally I'd idle for about five minutes and then drive, but today it would not clear the windshield...

I think I'm going to have to hook up the choke...there is no high idle option without the choke so it takes longer to warm up...the battery is strong, but when it gets to -30 as it sometimes does, it will need to start on the first crank or the battery drops off too much...

The choke has never been hooked up, btw, and it always (usually) started on the first crank or so even in the -30 zone...

I love winter, it's the frozen assets that I really don't appreciate...

I would hook up the choke. Now my 2.8 if you have the choke open on a cold start (10 degrees outside) good luck getting her started, but pull the choke closed (converted to a manual choke) and she fires right up. As for high idle, mine had it for like a week then it quit so I need to adjust it again for high idle. ATM I have to sit in the truck with my foot on the gas for at least 5min on 2000rpm for her to want to idle on her own.

oh don't be a wussy -23 is not that bad common in winter i run from my house in 40 below in a hoodie to go and start my truck first thing in the morning lol its kinda like a cold shower to wake you up!

We don't usually get that cold in December (I'm in Southern Ontario)...usually around -5 (Celcius) until January, then -10 till February, then February gives us our coldest temps generally dipping as low as -30 or -35...then in March we start to climb gradually to the thaw...

But, then again, it IS weather...so unpredictable...like women, cats, and lotteries...

the ranger fired up this morning had couple more inches of snow on it two hear in london

We've been at -13 c the last couple of days...and my Ranger has been starting first or second crank...

I was concerned about the -23 more about the anti-freeze than anything...but I was wondering at what temp gas freezes...if at all...I know there can be water in it and that will mess things up...

My windshield washer fluid froze...neat trick...the nozzle is mostly metal...I put a butane lighter on the back of the nozzle and it freed it up...if it was plastic I'd be really upset...lol

Love FI. one crank and she starts lol
