I am working on my buddy's '81 Granada and am having some ridiculous carb problems. We got the kit for it, cooked the carb, blew it out, yada yada...everything was looking good until we got it put back together. It ran for about 30 seconds and then flooded. Gas pours out of the overflow tubes on the top of the carb. To me this would indicate that the float is not set right or just a bad float.

I checked the dry float height when I did the rebuild and it was set correctly. We tried a float off another carb, different needles and seats, different float height, etc and so far we have made no progress. The two floats we tried should be good because they do float and don't have anything inside them.

I am really kind of at a loss as to where to go with this...a couple people suggested getting a new float but I don't to keep throwing money at it if it doesn't need it. The car was running alright before the carb rebuild but we decided to do it since it had been sitting for about 4 years and the inside of it looked horrible. Any ideas? :)

This may sound silly, but I have done this.Take the top off the carb, fire the engine and watch the float letting fuel into the bowl verifying positive shutoff. If you have to lift the float gently to assist with shutoff, adjust the float accordingly.

beyond that hi-tech procedure all I can think of is posibly some dirt or goo in the passages.Good luck Shran.

I will try that hopefully later this week...gotta let this snow melt off first!

Sorry about the snow!

I actually did take the top off the 2150,cranked up the truck and let it idle while watching the fuel level. At least you'll know.

Ummm...I fixed it....

:black_eye:

Forgot to clip the float spring back onto the needle seat. Oops. Didn't even notice until I pulled a third carb apart to see what was different.
