2025 Hunting Report

It’s generally a lot of work for a little meat, but it’s kinda fun to take a walk with a friend and bag something
I really want to go after the squirrels. I can't tell you how many times those little bastards would come running through making me think a deer was coming!

Red squirrels really aren’t worth the effort, but greys and fox squirrels are bigger and more worth it.

when I started hunting there were lots of pheasants, grouse, rabbits and plenty of farm land to hunt on. sadly today with farms changing hands & more development I am stuck hunting public land with state released birds,
add in my back issues , I would need someone to drag the deer out for me. plus the idiots you come across while deer hunting makes it frustrating.
I rarely duck or goose hunt any longer, cant lug a bag of decoys around like I did in my younger days. I have had hunting dogs since I was 20 yrs old & would not be without 1 or 2.
on the plus side I live 10 minutes from a large state game land (over 6000 huntable acres, 8200 acres total) so I am out with my boys almost every day of the season (y)

FYI...

I just edited your post from thumbnail to full image.

That's awesome... looking forward to the remainder of your hunting trips.

@Curious Hound that first photo looks like a good 2026 calendar photo...

We went out last weekend for birds and walked about 7 miles but didn't shoot any and only saw a few - two grouse that were spooked long before we were within range and a few pheasants. One I damn near stepped on in a tree row and somehow missed when I shot at it. Full choke laser beam weapon is not ideal at close range sometimes. Still had a lot of fun, just not sure where the birds were, we were scaring up more deer hiding in the sorghum fields than anything else.

Gonna try for deer this weekend. My tag is only good through the 30th but I don't really care if I fill it, freezer is still packed full. Wife & her dad have till the 30th and then another two weeks in December.

I was never good at bird hunting. They always seem to sit tight around here and don't take off until I'm right on them and they scare the crap out of me. It might be different if I had a dog.

my shooting is really bad this season  however my boys are doing an awesome job & giving me lots of opportunities.....
