2019 Ranger

I want a V-6 because they are smoother. I have never driven a 4 cylinder that was smooth. They vibrate a lot especially at idle and are kind of buzzy at higher rpm. I think the 2.3L EcoBoost has plenty of power though. My preference would be a small (2.7L?) EcoBoost V-6 with similar or slight better power than the 2.3L EcoBoost.

yes....cant get around the 4 whixxer....being a buzzy whizzer. the 2.7 is not less buzzy then the 3.5...about the same as the 4 cyl. especially cold start. i told my daughter to take hers back.

V6 wrote the book on buzzy...

inline 6 is ideal for sure. but the 3.0, 3.5 and 3.7 are much smoother then the 4 cyl in my experience. my only real complaint on the edge was buzzy and rough idle...

In a car/pickup it doesn't have 8 I just as soon not hear it.

My 2.8 was terribly buzzy, much worse than my 4cyl Eclipse... which ran like a sewing machine.

Have you thought about a wrap in yellow? I follow 4XOverland on youtube and he had his Toyota troop carrier wrapped and has gone quite a few offroad places in Australia and his has held up well. Hard to tel it's not actual paint, at least on the video's. I didn't even realize it was a wrap until he did a video about how well it has held up. Helps protect the actual paint underneath as well.

I really kinda want it factory color.

Everyone is stuck on what the Ranger doesn't have available its first year back. I'm fully confident theres a lot more to come for 2020 and 2021 as long as there is decent feedback in 2019. They're not going to sell 300,000+ plus like the hay days of the mid 90s, but just from the feedback I've seen they're going to sell a decent number. Theres a lot of people buying F150s now who likely only bought them because its all that was available. Hell just the amount of people buying Tacomas and Colorados because of Fords lack of a smaller truck will change.

I agree. Would I like more options? Sure but I'm in the market for a truck now for various reasons and what is available will do the job. I prefer more of the "sleeper" look in my vehicles anyway.

Maybe 2020 I'll get my 4x4 sport with Screaming Yellow and those sweet looking aloca wheels.

It seems like a waiting game. Ford is waiting to see sales figures before they release more options ( motor, trims, and special editions, i.e. Raptor). Consumers are waiting for more options. We Americans want the Ranger in full force with all the cool variants Rotw Rangers get. We are ready and waiting Ford, you're move.

Unfortunately, no, its consumer's move.

If Ford doesn't sell 100k+ Rangers in '19, their bean counters are going to say no to more development i.e. engine/trim/special editions, i.e. Lightning. Wasting precious development $$$ on dud product e.g. Pontiac Aztec would be foolish.

Seems like a waste to buy a white Ranger, then wrap it in Race Red just to get colour I want... But that might make finding a compatible long box to make a SCrew long bed a whole lot easier. (Need a spinning gears icon).

Note: Ranger sales can't eat into the more profitable F150 sales, so you can't get too carried away with special editions. Which IMHO means Raptor will be hard sell - on other hand, we can import all the parts from down under to convert our trucks to a Ranger Raptor (and price might not be that different...)

IMO F-150 Raptor guys are going to fight tooth and nail to keep a Ranger Raptor from happening. The F-150 Raptor is a cash cow and it won't take much convincing to keep the Ranger Raptor (as it is overseas) off the table.

The TRD Pro and ZR2 challengers are as of yet unanswered though.

I hadn't noticed but it is weird there is no red for an option aside from the extra cost "hot pepper red" That will hurt sales around here between all the Husker and Cyclone fans... (seriously)

You need to remember that Ford invested $850 million in to the Michigan Assembly plant to bring this truck back to North America. I personally think you will see more options with this truck when Ford starts seeing profits from their investment.

I think for now they've tried to provide the best lineup they could with their investment. As it starts paying off, they'll be able to invest in to more things such as including a manual transmission in the assembly process.

Like I said, waiting game. Ford waiting on sales, consumers waiting for a product. Hopefully enough of these first run Rangers get sold to have spin offs. I think a Raptor Ranger would be dumb and would eat into F150Raptor sales, but a different type of Ranger for a different Niche Market would boost ranger sales

1-In my years at the dealer all the EcoBoost engines performed far better than the 4.0 SOHC in power, gas mileage, and reliability. The 4.0 SOHC looks like someone gave Rube Goldberg 10 feet of timing chain and told him he had to use it all. My 2011 Ranger is a SOHC but I'd have bought a 2.3 EcoBoost in it given the option.
2-The dealer can't disable the start/stop permanently,it would be considered emissions tampering. If it was possible it wouldn't "void the warranty", there's a procedure for a dealer to notify Ford if a vehicle deserves to have coverage denied but it's seldom used because no one wants a customer to take them to court. For example, customer puts DEF in the fuel tank on a diesel then runs it till it quits. DEF contamination requires complete fuel system replacement for over $10,000, if dealer fixes under warranty Ford will charge it back when the parts are examined. Dealer's only way to cover his a$$ is to send in the report and let Ford deny coverage. Ford will then void coverage >>on the fuel system only<<. Customer's insurance will pay to replace fuel system then, assuming repair was done properly and documented, Ford will reinstate fuel system coverage. Even some title branded vehicles still have partial warranty coverage.

I think we need a true off-road truck, not a desert truck like the Raptor. Something that can climb hills, negotiate tight trails, larger mud terrain tires, and has a winch behind the front bumper like a Power Wagon.

I wouldn't hold your breath for a bunch of changes based on what the market does. Ford dragged their feet for years bringing this truck to market. Now, interest rates are climbing, vehicle sales are down worldwide, and economies across the globe are ripe for a slow down. Manufacturers are tightening their belts and axing vehicles that are slow sellers or low profit generators. That's not an ideal environment to debut a new truck into a crowded segment of the market, even if it does have "class leading" specs.

Its going to, theres no way around it. I know they're aiming to hurt Tacoma and Colorado sales more, but they have to know F150 sales are going to suffer slightly as well.
