2019 Ranger Powertrain

That has been the trend since forever. And they last longer than ever.

And a little bird told me they are not going to replace the entire F-Series lineup with the Ranger.

Last longer than ever? They haven't had these new engines out long enough to know but those what are trying to use them to tow max weight are quickly finding out they don't last long and the turbos don't last...I think I'll stick to a real engine for towing duties.

And yet the average lifespan of a vehicle keeps getting longer.

Max payload long term will shorten the lifespan of ANY engine. An engine loafing along is much happier than one pulling its guts out full time. That predates the Ecoboost literally by centuries.

Maybe I'm wrong...but I don't see the Ranger as a vehicle designed for towing. It's a "lifestyle" truck for folks like me who want to put a motorcycle in the back (509lbs full of fuel) and head for the mountains. Maybe haul an ATV or a JetSki. Put your bicycle in the back and head for the trails. Load it up with camping stuff and a canoe and head for the river.

None of that stuff is going to tax a 2.3L four cylinder...much less one with a twin scroll turbo strapped to it.

I really don't know why people are getting all hot and bothered by it, it will waste any previous Ranger for towing. Not like a 2.9 or even a big bad 4.0 will do any better. If you need more Ford makes a truck for it.

Other midsizes are sporting pretty decent #'s though, Taco is at 6500lbs and Colorado is at 7700lbs. Not much of a camper but hauling a car would be doable and handy.

Not much of a camper ? I have a very nice camper that weighs ~4500-5000 pounds with the tanks dry. Sleeps 6. 2009 model. 100% self contained. I tow it with my 3.slow Scab.

With the popularity of sliders campers get heavy fast. My inlaws have a 27' with two sliders that sleeps 6. I think it is around a 2012 model. Locally I would do fine but there is no way I would strike off cross country pulling it with my F-150. It weighs around 8k empty.

I only tent camp, I know the physical size of my inlaws camper seems to be pretty common. Not really an expert on them.

The annoying two piece shaft is back! Replacing the support bearing should be less annoying, as the crossmember is above it this time.

It might help some with NVH, I dunno. There are longer trucks out there with a solid shaft that run just fine.

I really don't like skidplates but so far I think that is the only way to get a locking rear axle.

Nice to see them testing with a substantial looking trailer too.
