One of the guys came back from a run yesterday with scraping noise coming from the left front. Took me about 15 seconds to see the caliper bolts were gone! Picking up the new ones this morning and hoping someone here might have the book spec on torque. Rig is out of service obviously.

Thanks in advance.

That's not covered under warranty? I get its a fleet vehicle but...

You will want to look at the pads and caliper itself for damage/wear.

I'd be curious to find out the percentage of people who actually torque stuff to spec vs. The people who use the German method of going until its Gudentite.

I've done my fair share of work on things and have honestly never bothered with by-the-book torque unless it's something that might leak, stuff like internal motor work, situations where the fastener is real small, and with bolts that thread into aluminum.

Everything else I just crank down. Mabey the tech who last worked on those brakes had real spindly arms and should of used a bar for more leverage lol.

Thanks. Just stopped by the Ford dealer to pick up the bolts. They said 98 ft. lbs! These are like 1/2" bolts or whatever in metric. Seems like a lot. I've never in my life torqued a caliper bolt, nor had one come loose, but this being an emergency vehicle and all...

It was specially built by a third party with the lift kit, big tires and such, don't know about warranty but just need to get it back in service.

I've never had to pull a caliper off to install a lift kit, but with all the newer types of suspension I guess its possible. I'd check the other side as well.

Blue loctite is your friend.
