I guess it wasn't moving fast enough for the owner, or he sold it offline.

Last time I used ebay they didn't allow that crap. Once you put it up for auction that's it. I mean you could sell it private but ebay would attack you on fees and shut your account down for that?
Which is why there's a reserve price. If you do a reserve then it won't sell below it and you can list again for free but you could never just pull the auction cause you sold it private.
I use to sell a ton on ebay but gave up because it's always sellers word first. They get the exact thing you listed and don't like it they get their money back and as a seller you are screwed. I literally had cases where I had 3 pages of info on fitment, disclaimers, directions, etc. Seller gets it and can't get the part to work cause he's an idiot. I'd even offer to drive to their shop and put it on and they just said no. It ends up in ebay "court" and half the time I don't even get the product back but have to refund the money. This was for exhaust systems. Done with ebay...

Ive never sold on fleabay but Ive bought quite a few things, only thing Ive really got burned on was a belt, back in october I was getting things I needed for the wheel horse and one of those things was a drive belt from the engine to transmission. I got the package but never opened it until about april, its so far from wrong I dont know what it would fit, and so much time had gone by its mine now, like it or not.
I bought a few books on Ebay years ago but that was it.
