california truck, so extra emissions stuff, automatic transmission. 2 things on the “bad” things with it.

Our dealership was 2 miles from the Vt border and they're a "green" state so we always ordered everything with California emissions. It didn't cause us any problems and we could do dealer swaps with NY, Maine, and Mass, too.

What in 2011 would be different on a California truck? Almost everything was California compliant by then?

idk, at one time though there was specific “california “ models, I remember on price is right when they were rattling off specs on a car there was always “california emissions “ mentioned. I figured there was still something different (strickter) regarding vehicles for california. But I may be wrong.

If the traction control and NFG rear disc brakes don't scare you the emissions shouldn't. My 2011 had Cal emissions, no extra charge on the sticker. One thing, if we sold one into Vt where Cal emissions were mandated, the customer got the longer California warranty coverage, a NH customer buying the same truck did not.

My 2009 is listed as having "California emissions" even though it came from PA. I've yet to find anything that makes the "California" part special. Same parts, no difference in ecu tuning, no extra emissions equipment. The only thing I can think of is the cats being C.A.R.B compliant. However I would think all factory cats were C.A.R.B compliant in 2009 regardless of being a "California" model. Not to mention the C.A.R.B cats are identical anyway, they just have to go through extra certification for no apparent reason. If anyone knows an actual physical difference between a California ranger and a non California ranger I'd be interested to know what it is.

I know in some earlier models the difference was California trucks having egr valves where non California trucks did not. But all 2.3 duratecs have an EGR valve so that's not it...

PA was the second state to go CARB compliant. We have been a California Emissions state since 2002.

That I didn't know. Still, what the heak does that actually mean as far as what is physically different between my 2009, or the 2011 listed, and a non California complaint ranger? :dunno:

Like I said I know of some differences on older models (the egr thing) but can't find any real difference on mine besides a sticker.
