As a new owner of a 2009 4X4 B 4000 I am continuously amazed at how difficult Ford/Mazda made it to do an otherwise simple job; like replacing OEM headlight bulbs with upgraded aftermarket units. While in the process I decided I would install an FIPK from K&N.
The trick to both of these seems to be getting the stock airbox out. There are two rubber grommets that secure the box to the inner fender. I can't seem to be able to get them to release. What is the technique to disconnect them?

Thanks all.

I never had issues replacing the headlight bulbs....? And the whole air box can come out with a firm tug...?

And to get to the headlight bulbs us as simple as pulling the 2 metal tabs that hold the housings in....

Thank you for your advice, but the Mazda doesn't have the tabs you indicate. I suspect you are referring to a Ranger; correct?

For my 2004 Mazda, I had a heck of a time getting the bulbs out. It seems to be a lot more difficult than it should be. I just squeezed my hand in between the rad suppport and the air cleaner (or battery on the d.s.) and through the hole, and used my other hand to guide the bulb out. I found the collar quite annoying to deal with. Be patient, and best of luck!

You may have already figured this out, but in case not, or for others, Mazda headlight removal differs from Ranger. If you have to remove headlights to change bulbs, or whatever, best if you get a ring spreader tool to release the clips (top and bottom), then pull upwards to remove clips. Then pull headlight straight forward - don't be afraid to use some force - they can be a b..tch.

I have been able to replace bulbs (07 B4000) without removing headlights by reaching in behind and turning bulb holder counter-clockwise. If you have stock air box, easiest if you remove it. Box just pulls straight up - again use some force (force fit into grommets at bottom).

Hope this helps.

For the Air box removal just use some WD-40 on the grommets and let it soak in a while. Then just give it a firm tug. Be patient - I broke one of the plastic knobs that insert into the grommets.
