My Ranger idles so high I'm afraid to drive it. Reading the posts from you folks gives me hope and I will figure it out. And now I have a few more people to get advice from! Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.

Welcome to TRS :)

What size engine in your 2008, there were 3 options, 2.3l, 3.0l and 4.0l?

First see if the computer is setting a high idle or if a Vacuum leak is causing it

Locate your IAC Valve, upper intake near throttle plate
It has a 2 wire connector, unplug it, so you know how and then plug it back in

Start engine
Unplug IAC Valve
Engine should stall if cold, if warm then it should drop to 500 rpms, barely running or it may stall as well

If RPMs stay high you have a vacuum leak, OR......................IAC Valve is stuck wide open, broken

If RPMs drop then computer was doing it, holding RPMs high, could be ECT(or CHT) sensor issue
