What kind of gas mileage can be expected with a 2008 ranger sport 4x4 with the 4.0 and 5spd thanks in advance

It depends where you drive. On US and State Routes at 55mph or less? Somewhere around 23 mpg. On Interstates where the speed is usually 65-70 mph, figure more like 19-20 mpg. Straight City, no idea. I average about 18.5 mpg over all with my 2011, which is similarly equipped as your 2008.

My 06 Sport has never seen 23 mpg's... 20.8 was the best it's ever delivered. My average was a little less then sgtsandman at 18.2... most of my miles are blowing down the tollways at about 70 mph. I did upgrade tires in the last couple thousand miles... I need to check it again. I was hoping for an increase with the 32... well 31.9 inch tires. It dropped just about 300 rpm at 70 mph.

sgtsandman... I know you just went to 265's yourself... You checked your mileage after they went on?

Yep, mpg is about the same once you do the conversion for the difference in the tires. Miles X (new tire diameter divided by OEM tire diameter) divided by gallons refueled = mpg. Is working out about the same as before the new tires. Obviously, its worse if you don't do the conversion by about a mpg or two. I hashed that formula out with my 1999 Honda CR-V after I had up sized the tires on it and bounced it off a few brainiacs in order to make sure I wasn't throwing crap into the computation before running with it.

Most owners with the 4.0 SOHC average about 17mpg:

The manual will give you more of a chance to beat that, but I wouldn't go in expecting anything better than 18-19mpg.
