So i have this great idea of looking to buy a new 2008 super duty, However, I am picky and i don't want to spend the outrageous price of 85,000 dollars for a fully loaded crew cab or extended cab.

Nope i want to buy a new one, preferably in the XLT range, with a regular cab, throw a lift in it and have a diesel. Now i know it can be done, you can buy a super duty with the diesel and regular cab and a whole bundle of options for cheaper than the fully loaded 4dr version. Being that the dealer WILL have to order it straight from the factory with said options and up where i live, reg cab SDs are few and far between because people either buy the extended cab or crew cab

However, i'm noticing, EVEN on ford.com and ford.ca that apparently you cannot get a 250 with a short box (6.5') in the regular cab version, It looks like it only comes with the long bed (8') Is this bullshit or is there a way around it?

See i've even dug up a photo of a really nice looking SD with a lift and reg cab, (keeping in mind that it needs bigger tires, and maybe better rims then those) in my eyes this is one hell of a truck. I'd still keep my ranger, but i just need a little more power for towing shit then the ranger.

Does this look like a long box SD to anyone, because really to me it looks like a short box.

everyone else says its a different box from a 150 or he cut the frame or something but judging by the rear taillights it is infact the 08 style lights...

I'm confused. Unless he cut the fenders to make it look smaller (which might be the case because look at how close the flare is to the gas cap)

Hell it almost seems like this truck is shorter than mine, but i don't know, i like the stout look to such a big truck.

One other thing about this truck is that it doesn't look to be an XL or XLT trim because they have black grilles and headlight gussets.

Note this is what the ford site is saying the reg cab XL comes with...(8' box)

That is a short box, but it's custom. Ford has never offered a 3/4 or 1 ton truck in a standard cab short bed. While I think it's looks cool as hell, it's not really useful. I meen, if your buying a truck like that it's normally because you want to work it or use it for towing. A truck like that would not be good for that. With the short wheelbase towing heavy loads would be sketchy. Heavy towing would push that thing all over the place, especially with a nose heavy diesel. It would be ill handling even with no load just because of how nose heavy it would be.

well how well would a lifted reg cab long box SD look? I really want a fullsize, and after seeing this shortbox custom thing it looks pretty neat, at most i'd put a sled in the back because well i hate towing my trailer with 1 sled on it when i can't fit it in the back of the ranger. That and a diesel is sweet lol

I think and SD looks sweet. I wouldn't buy a standard cab truck again though. I've ran them for years and really appreciate the extra (interior) space my last two extended cab trucks have given me. Thought about getting a ext cab short bed? If you can live with a standard cab then go for, it'll be cheaper for sure. I just spoiled myself now, and dont see myself going back to a standard cab truck anytime soon.

I've got a gasser SD, you interested?

Diesel is knocking on $4 per gallon right now, and those 6.4's don't start getting better milage than the V-10 until they get halfway broken in ( 10-13 mpg for the first 30k-40k) Right now I am thinking a V-10 might be the way to go, the $6k price difference between the two would buy a lot of gas.

Getting a F-250 diesel to haul around a snowmobile is kind of like using a Buick to smash a fly... way overkill. A F-150 is quite a bit cheaper and would do the job just fine.

this most likely wont help, seeing its a ext cab, older style, but this is one of the sickest trucks ive ever seen, its my friends f350 v10, he gets 11-13mpg

I like the setup in that original pic, looks like a F-150 bed to me though, lookin' at the taillights... I saw a guy with a reg. cab, lngbd, 4x4, SD, looked cool to me, especially with the old school light bar (roll bar) he had in it. Maybe you could hold out another year or so, and check out the supposed F-150 diesel in the works... ps: I use to drive an E-450 with a bus body, and a V-10, for work, got like 5mpg, but also a lot idling and city driving.

The style of F-150 that had tail lights like those also had the front of the bed angle back, I am almost positive that is not a F-150 bed. It would be easier to shorten a super duty (which also used similar tail lights to the F-150) than to reform the front of the bed to make it straight.

Here is mine, you can kind of see what I am talking about, it is kind of hard to see the shadow between the bed and cab with a mostly black truck though.

yeah, I revoke my previous statement, I was thinkin the taillights were like those on that 2002 F-150 above, but no. And after cruisin around earlier today (on the bus) and chceckin out F-250's and newer 150's, I'd agree, the original post pic looks like a cut down 250. BTW: anbody seen those new (or not so new) Dodge Maxi Cabs? 6.5' beds even with the duallies, kinda sweet...

seeing its a dodge, it should be called maxi-pad, or tampon-cab. because only girls drive dodges.

I was gonna say that's my kinda woman! then I remembered the gal I saw drivin' one of those things, she was trying to get it into one of those handicap spots that's extra wide, finally angled it in, and well I don't want to make fun of people, but dang, she coulda used some extra walkin' ta say the least.

people in handicap spots always have jacked up trucks, it make no sense! must of got a law suit or something and bought a huge fullsize. either that or chrysler newyorkers!
