2004 Ranger Edge Build Up

alright well i have my bed cage up and finished w/ shocks mounted and the front suspension has the new uca mounted. now the only problem im running into is how to mount the rear glass fenders. how do you remove the stock ones from the bed? not as easy as the front :bawling: help? thanks

oh defintely not. Youh ave two option, you either pull the whole bed and jsut make some mounts with zues clips to hold the fenders or you buy a spot weld remover drill bit and drill out every spot weld on the bedsides to pull them off. there are welds all down the bed rail, on the sides and under in some areas

alright its not as bad as i thought it would be. You think stores like 4 wheel parts or ORW would do this for me? and if so any ideas on the price?

shooot. alright so how long/hard would this be for me to remove? any moving of the bed etc? dont wanna start it and find out that it took way longer than expected

i really cant say as i dont know if you have done any sheet metal like this before. id say at longest around two weekends (assuming you have never done anything like this and things fight you). removing teh bed is not needed. You might just be better off pullin the bed sides if you dont wanna woerry about ruining the bed. that is just a matter of cutting under the bed, putting a jack in there to push the bedside out and welding in some braces to keep that desired width and also extending the fender supports.

you will need to remove the box to get at the spot welds that run between the box and the cab, remove your tail lights, push the wireing harness down and out of the way, remove the three screws in the filler neck, find all the spot welds and drill them out with a spot weld bit or a 5/16 drill bit, I wasnt worried about damaging my old box sides so it didnt take very long to take them off, dont forget the inner fender support inside the wheel well and the rods that support the corners of the wheel wells, once you get the welds drilled, fight with the boxside, curse and swear on it and then drill out the two spot welds you missed the first time, after that they should lift off pretty easy, take some time and position the new boxsides on the box where they fit best, I used 3/16 large flange rivets to hold the fiberglass on to the inner box about every 8". It took me half a day and 7 or 8 beer to do mine with a friend to help with the lifting in my driveway, your gonna need to fab some supports for the corners of the wheel wells, and leave out the beer, your gonna want to drive it after you get them on. take your time removing the factory sides if they are in good shape you can sell them pretty easy, I cant remember if I had to remove the tailgate hardware from the box or not? you might have to.

alright thanks for the input and im pretty familiar with sheet metal so that shouldnt be a problem. The spot welds that hold the fender on are along the top i know that but are they down the sides? i looked and it just seemed like it was wrapped around the sides. and im putting some TT fenders to make the rear seem proportioned to the front since i have a reg cab

oh duh, thanks fx i forgot about those spot welds at the front. So yeah the bed will have to be removed. I may look like it just wraps around but it does not, it is either pinch welded or there are spot welds you just cant see till you take the bed off. The bigger the rivet flange (the flat washer looking end) the better. it spreads out the stress points of where you have the rivets so the fiberglass will not crack when the glass flexes. If you have to, id even put a washer behind the rivet and on the front, it will really help distribute the load and give less chance of cracking

Thanks for the advice on mounting and ive decided to remove the stock bed sheet metal via angle grinder. i know how this is done im just wondering if theres any pros and cons to doing this because i cant remove my bed anymore due to the bed cage. poor planning on my part

if the bed cage is still like the last pic i would just cut out the floor in between the towers the remove the bed.

and just make tabs on the cage to bolt the floor in to the cage it self

that is also another possibility but im thinking the angle grinder route would cut the time and also be easier for me to do. and i will have the bed rails still attached for mounting the glass

Haven't been on here in awhile but anyways my rangers looking pretty nice have front glass on it sorta paint matched my uca are built and have been on the truck for awhile other than that ive been focusing on my eclipse gst and now that its done im back to the ranger again. Where did i leave off.. the front is pretty much done for now id like to get my hands on some 3 inch lift spindles for some more travel but my setup right now works just fine the rear is shock hoops a little stiff tho need to get some new deavers and need to put my rear glass on and also adding two bars from the light bar to the bed bolt on with a spare tire carrier in the middle

this will be easier for everyone to see like this; good looking truck btw!
