70k miles. 5 spd. 2.3L (Love my truck!)
On a trip 2 weeks ago, half way point, clutch pedal sticks on top. Raining cats and dogs. Felt like a hang up in the linkage. Had replaced clutch master cylinder 6 weeks before. Finally was able to push pedal in with my hand. Didn't feel right. Slave cylinder blew it's guts all over the pavement. Drove the rest of the way (350 mi.) around Ike w/no clutch. If I had to stop, turned it off, put it into 2nd, started, jammed into 3rd, eventually 5th.
Got slave cylinder replaced ($377 + tow) and finally after 6 bleeding of the ol' gravity system sessions, clutch finally feels good (95%). Shifts well in all gears except:
Problem - got a crunch going into 2nd, both from 1st and down shifting from 3rd. Seems to be quieter if I can let the engine get below 2,000 rpm, but still crunches.
Question - reckon I ate a syncronizer with all that Lone Star Beer I drank?

Sounds like my truck. I went for about 12k miles with a throw out bearing that was going bad so now I have to be gentle getting into second gear or i get a littel grind. You can drive it that way for probably a couple years if you take it easy, no grabbing second gear and whatnot.

So yes, you probably damaged the syncro, or blocking ring or both.

Your other option is to get the tranny rebuilt but that is $$$$$$$$$$$.

appreciate it Metal.

I understand from reading other threads that a tranny rebuild kit was around $150 but sounded like it was more hassle than it'sworth. My brother is a gear head and has rebuilt his automatic in his 73 Dart, I am sure with a little persuasion (case of something) he could do this one. May just shop around for a used tranny.

Thanks again
