I recently aqquired a 2004 extended cab V6 4L with automatic transmission. that had been sitting for secersl years with periodic startup.. after changing the fluids realized it was a very good and strong running truck. Started it up the other day then was distracted by for about 15 minutes during which time the truck was idling. I put the truck in drive and tried to accelerate t. The engines raved but barely moved. Popped the hood and checked trans dipstick and discoverers no fluid registered on the dipstick k. The looked down at the tall grass I was parked on and saw a significant amount of trans fluid had leaked out. Upon further inspection I was able to determine the fluid was coming from a badly rusted trans cooler line. Replied the line and refilled the trans. It took 6 quarts to bring it normal level but still willl only barely engage in forward gear selection while reverse engages stringky. Did I fry the teams by letting it idle with a broken cooler line that pumped out 6 of the 10 quarts? I removed the trans pan which looked normal. No major chips on the magnet. I replaced the filter as well. That said I haven’t refilled it fluid thinking maybe the issue is with a solenoid or pump. I am hoping someone on the forum may have encountered a similar problem and could provide some insight. Thank you in advance
