I have a problem with my 2002 Supercab with my drivers side rear door. The cable attach point for the door handle has disintegrated leaving the door handle unable to open the rear door. You pull the rear door handle and it doesn't pull on the cable to open the door. Number one, does any one know the method of removing the inner door panel to get at the inside of the door. Two, does the door handle for the rear door have to be drilled out to remove it to replace the cables. I have found the parts to fix this but before I make a mistake I thought I would get some one's opinion on how to do this, especially if you have done this job before.

Any info would be helpful, thanks

I've got a 99 super-cab, so i'd imagine its similar... I just replaced my rear speakers and front door lock actuators. If memory serves me correctly the handle is riveted on, but shouldn't have to come off (unless the handle is the broken part). If the handle has to come off, i don't see why you couldn't get bolts for it. Otherwise the plastic door liner pops off with plastic christmas tree tab things (get the $6 tool, make getting them off easier). I believe there are 1 or two along the bottom of the door, and unless you can open it that may be tough, brute force may be the only option for those, rip it off? beyond that replacing the guts is pretty straight forward, just make sure someone with small hands is around, should you drop something to the bottom of the door, its not exactly a spacious work space, and being crammed in the back of the truck cause you can't open the door might make it "fun". best of luck to ya...

I have the same problem with both rear doors,as a temporary 'fix',just so I could open the door(s) till I could do a real repair,I found what is called a 'Tack Puller'(looks like a 'mini' trim tool),and I place it on each cable to hold back the housing, while pulling on the handle, just so the door will unlatch & open.....I have repaired one using 1/4" Pex Pipe from Lowes(about $1.38),and some cables ties.
When I called my local Ford 'stealer-ship' to see about getting new cables, they wanted $145.00 for each cable, but said since I needed all 4 cables(for both doors),they'd make me a 'special deal',and let me have all 4 for $499.00!:thefinger:....When the parts guy heard my reaction,he said he had heard of other people using the cable/barrel adjusters from bicycle brakes....I may do that on my other rear door, when I finally get around to it,this Spring.
Here is the 'Tack Puller'($3.99 @ Ace H/W)I used for awhile(and still use on the 1 un-fixed door):

Here is the bike cable adjuster(.99¢/ea) I was referring to(you only need 2 per door/1 for each cable): http://www.ebay.com/itm/BICYCLE-BRA...arts_Accessories&hash=item2a2eb727be#shpCntId
Here's another handy thing to have on hand, because the 'retainers' get old & brittle, and your going to tear some up(I know I sure did, even with a trim tool): http://www.ebay.com/itm/230587531160?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
And here is the the guide I used to remove the door panel: http://rockledge.home.comcast.net/~rockledge/RangerPictureGallery/RangerDoorRemoval_Rear.pdf
Hope all of this info helps you,and anyone else who finds this thread, and has the same problem.:icon_thumby:
Or if $38 per door (top & bottom cables) sounds good,I have found a 'repair kit' on Ebay, and there is a video on Youtube:
