I have a 2002 Ranger with the 3.0L V6 engine, auto transmission and 30,000 miles. Whenever I drive up a small hill the engine developes a heavy pinging noise. Suggestions????

I have used all three grades with the same results.

Moved to proper forum.

There is a TSB out for pinging in later model Rangers with the 3.0 V6. Turns out the coil pack was not putting out enough spark to the plugs, causing pinging. In the TSB it lists the coil pack numbers which were faulty. You can compare your number to the ones in the TSB to see if you need to replace it.
