new user here, i have been a long time user of The Ranger Station and finally decided to go ahead and sign up. I have an issue with my 2002 3.0 ford ranger xlt automatic with shaking in first gear and reverse. the idle is smooth but once i shift it to drive or reverse it will start shaking with some force. the odd thing is that once i get out of first gear the problem will go away until the truck is turned off. for example i pull out of the drive way and it shakes. i drive down the road, come to a red light and stop there, no shaking is present and i have a smooth take off and no gears slipping or anything. the problem completly goes away until the next time i turn my turn on after it has been turned off. CEL came on and i took it to get a tune up and the fuel filter was recently changed. new intake filter was put in and throttle body was cleaned. ive tried narrowing it down based on some other post i searched for but the problem still persists and i just wanted someone to shed some ideas to me so i can hopefully fix this annoying issue with the ranger. all help would be greatly appreciated and it feels good to join the ranger station family finally! thanks a lot in advance!!

That is a very odd problem. So you are saying that once you crank the truck on it will shake like crazy when you put it in drive until after it shifts passed 1st gear, but idles just fine? That is weird. It sounds like some sort of sensor, since it happens whenever you turn the truck off and start it again. Have you checked the TPS to make sure it is getting the right voltage? Next time that CEL comes on get the code read and it will point you in the right direction. Also check for vacuum leaks.

exactly. it will only shake until I get out of reverse and past 1st gear. not very familiar with how to check the tps to make sure it is functioning properly. any ideas to help me with that problem? thank you very much for your help!!

. CEL came on and i took it to get a tune up and the fuel filter was recently changed. new intake filter was put in and throttle body was cleaned.!

-Go find out the actual # of the code you had

-I am not familiar with a "intake filter"?

-I agree with the sensor idea. try and catch pending codes. pending codes are codes that are thrown but do not set the CEL off but are still recorded when you check for them

-I doubt it is the motor mounts. The issue seems to consistent to be a mount.

-cleaning the MAF with CRC cleaner is always a good idea!

I also would suspect a transmission issue.

-check the transmission fluid

-How many miles?

-has tranny fluid ever been changed?

-checking for codes might help you here.
