Happy 100k day to me, I just crossed over 100,000 miles in my 2002 Ranger Edge 3.0 2WD. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations of maintenance that I should perform. Feel free to include things as obvious as an oil change, I do not want to leave anything important out. Some ideas I have are brakes, belts, tires, oil, etc.

I also would like to do a few simple modifications to improve performance, efficiency, etc. I am not exactly a car guy, but I learn easily and could probably do some pretty basic engine work if I find it feasible. That being said, feasible for me means the total price of all maintenance (oil, filters, tires, brakes, turbocharger lol jk, etc.) is $400 - $600.

Oh and I do plan on getting some all terrain tires. I mainly drive on pavement, but there are times that I manage to traverse the unbeaten path. Any recommendations on those?

Not much

can be done to improve performance, efficiency, etc.... If it could be done FORD would have done it.. That little 3.0 will last and last if you don't screw with it. What you have is really a state of the art engine. Leave it alone.
The hundred grand mark isn't a mark the engine even knows about. If you have treated it well it should be better than some that have only 40K on them.
With that in mind I'll tell you about mine. I won't even look at doing anything to my ride until it starts telling me something. If it needs sparks or wires or just about anything it will be telling ME I don't even have to ask.
I see guys doing what they think is preventative maintenence.. All the while taking good parts out and installing things that may be worse than the factory parts they are taking out.
The only one part I'd be thinking MAYBE to mess with would be the thermostat. But even that should last many more miles than you have on it.

mmmm i have 105xxx and all i have wrong is a tick that you can hear from just below the drivers door either transmitted engine sound or tranny. but i also beat it in the desert.......but she is still running strong and from what i hear fiestier than most 3.0s she loves abuse just keep coolant in it and stay ontop of oil changes

Thanks

Thanks, I agree that my engine at 100k is better than any other I have seen. I appreciate and am satisfied with your advice. I would like this truck to last many more years in its current condition, it serves all my purposes exceptionally well. I am not looking to do anything drastic to the truck, but as I said, a few things already do need a little care at the moment. I do have low tread on my Michelin ltx ms's and I feel like tires are incredibly important in terms of safety. The passenger side door electric lock motor is too weak to lift it, and my side mirror motors are bad.

Any advice on the tires is still welcome, as well as suggestions of trusted vendors for quality replacements for those other parts.

I am a Firestone/Bridgestone guy myself. They seem to have the most modern methods of making tires. Their hyline tires are round and easily balanced.. Both of which means a lot to me.
I never again will purchase tires from discount type houses. I go to the newest dealer in the area, one that should have all the newest gadgets available for tire installation.

My drivers side door lock motor is weak:) must be a small flaw in the system. Keep an ear on your camshaft syncro it seems that they can last for 150,000 plus or go out at 40,000. If it starts to squeak or squeal take care of it right away, hopefully your truck will not follow the same path as mine and start to fall apart right at 100k:)
