I would like to upgrade to projector low beam reflector high beam headlights. I'm seeing the spec d projector headlights, which is pretty much what I'm looking for. Are these the best option, or is there a better one you'd recommend?

There is no best option. In what you are looking for there is no off the shelf upgrade. Those are about a style, not about improved light output. When new, stock style headlights with a good bulb are arguably better than those.

If you want the real improvement of projectors, you need to be looking into custom units that retrofit an actual HID or LED projector into an existing housing. Pretty much all of those you will have to cut up a stock or aftermarket housing to mount the projector in.

If style is what you are after, one is as good as the next and buy what you like.

I hit a cow in my 2004 Ranger and need new headlights among other stuff....
I figured I would upgrade to projectors since I have to replace the whole assemblies since the front clear plastic is broke on both.

Reading JoshT's post above it sounds like I have to buy replacement stock housings and then retrofit the HID projector into the new housing. Does that sound correct?

I assumed since I had to replace the whole housing that I could just buy "plug-n-play" housings that were HID projector. However, like the OP all I have found so far are Spec-D and ANZO which don't sound like they improve the lighting/visibility much if at all.

To my knowledge it's either DIY like that, or hire someone to do the retrofit to a set of housings for you. If you really have to have them and aren't up to the task yourself, there are a few people/places around the interwebs that specialize in doing that type of stuff.

They do look cool, but I know I'm not up to the task myself and I don't really feel the need for them. I'm happy with the stock housings, good bulbs, and maybe some auxiliary lights for the empty back roads.

Thanks.
I just ordered some stock headlights from JP Auto. I'll give them a try like that. Just getting new housings might be all the upgrade need.
