how do you feel about 1000 hail dents in the hood?

I asked because I have seen repeatedly lots and lots of 3rd gen and a few 4th gen when surfing facebook... problem is "out on the plains" where I am at is hail alley, so you are just about guaranteed little to no rust, but significant hail damage... and I saw a white 2000 when I first asked... can't find it right now, but there is a black 99 listed for 800 as a full running vehicle, and 98 (red) missing front bumper with a blown engine listed asking 800... so that 500 figure might be more for the 2nd & 3rd gens that I see a lot of and less for 4th gens which are rarer (I've not seen a single 4th gen in 3 junkyards I visit).

These are ridiculous far from you, but if you expand your search / ask a buddy who does FB I would bet SE colo to North TX (I know still a long long ass ways from you) could probably scare up one somewhere between Lamar and Amarillo (all still hail alley) with the same no rust but hail issues.

I think the junkyard wants $300 for a box (bed) so paying in the range of $500 would be cheaper than individual parts even from a cheap junkyard like mine.
