2001 ford ranger xlt ext cab flareside windshield replacement questions?

Here is a picture of the OEE Glass vs the OEM glass carlite ford glass. The OEM glass appears much darker but it is clear.

The OEE glass wouldn't wipe clean in the morning or repel the water very well. So Condensation wouldn't wipe away well. So i could not see well in the morning with the OEE glass and it is not winter time yet, Its summer time.

The Windshield has clear ceramic tint on it that is legal. Witch might also make the windshield appear darker

I have not tried early morning driving yet with the new windshield. Hoping it will wipe clean just with the wipers. I might have to replace my wipers.

Wondering if anyone has a pair of Motorcraft Ford Wiper Blades for 2001 Ford Ranger xlt? The non winter blades so the regular blades. Like new or new would be great. I will try to run a search to see if anyone has them for sale. Ford Part number I think you need 2 of them. There doesn't seem to be a different part number for right and left.

It's the windshield that comes stock with the FX4 / Level II. Cost a little extra but it's a Carlite. Diamond polishing powder for windshields
Thanks for your reply
Nice Windshield... They didn't give me that option for my truck... And i didn't know to ask for it... I didn't know it existed till just now.

I will google it... But what does the diamond polishing powder do? Wondering if i can diamond Powder Polish my Windshield or is that a factory thing?

Hello i was just wondering if i could get new glass for a truck that is 23 years old? Or do i have to get used glass from another Ranger? My windshield isn't cracked but it fogs badly and has some stains i can't get rid off from sitting outside for long years. I tried glass stripper and it helped a little but my glass definitely needs restoration or replacement.
Anyone know any DIY tricks to restore glass? Or a good glass restoration shop near 91710 area. Is there a way to put a protective layer on the glass again. It seems to lack the protective barrier it once had if that makes sense. It fogs easily were i can't see out of it in the morning. And it's not winter time yet. Im concerned i won't be able to see in the morning when winter comes.
I had a shop put new glass on mine about 2 years ago. They recommended that it should be removed after 20 years because rust begins to form there. Sure enough, they were right. They got a new one from Ford. Chances are that you can still get a new one.

SlugStang,

The polishing powder gives good results when done correctly. Normally done when the stock glass needs rework & new glass is non existent. The diamond powder (600 mesh) is corse enough to remove light pits & scratches, and leave a high gloss. I use a buffing pad with a light oil like wd40 and about 1 gram. Have to charge the buffing pad slowly. Then when it's full then it's ready. The glass polishing is a typical rework on existing glass on older vehicles. Keep it on the pad and not on the paint, motor, lungs.

The Ranger windshield is a stock Carlite part, costs around $460 installed, you could get the same thing with a vinyl decal, but no hatch marks-dots. The wife told me that I will not replace my broken "Ranger" glass with no other than the one it came with, I said ok! Ask your windshield guy, there available as new old stock.

I got quoted at 430 $ for stationary back window OEM with install and the window is tinted. It seems a little steep to me. Wondering what you guys would think. I could get a used back window for 150 $ but i don't know the condition yet i have to go check it out. I mean the single piece window not the slider window? Wondering if it is easier to see out the single window vs the slider window?

Visibility is just fine either way. The sliding window is very helpful. Perhaps you might do better at a U-Pull yard. I think I got one for $35.00. There must have been a dozen old Rangers there. It didn't take long to find a good one.

Wow 35$ thats amazing i would do that if i could do that. Id have to go to TRQ Pick your part though. Visibility is the same on either window then i would definitely go with the regular window. I don't think i will get much use out of the slider window. What is the actual purpose of the slider window anyway?

The slider window is good for parking on a hot summer's day. It keeps the cab cool. It's also nice for fresh air. your choice.

I would like a slider window but my truck came with the solid rear window.

And here in south texas, people like to pop open the slider and take whatever they can reach

I keep nothing in my cab and never lock it, but do as you please.

For what it's worth: The slider and the one piece window are interchangeable. They are both bolted and caulked in place. The rear window needs to be popped outward in order to be removed.

It works pretty good but it will not remove deep scratches, mostly abrasions left by wipers. It is available through Eastwood. Those new ceramic "waxes" or coatings also work well on glass. They will protect it from wiper marks, also make it a little easier to clean off dead bugs. I think they also will extend the life of wiper blades. I use Turtle Wax products but would imagine the other brands are equally as good.

For a new window, that isn't a bad price. It cost me $500 to get a rear window with a slider in the 2011 to replace the solid back window.
