My steering wheel in my 2001 ford ranger needs to be replaced because the buttons are exposed.

I would like to install a new ford ranger oem steering wheel but without the airbag? Can this be done or will the airbag sensor or dash light be on all the time?

This is the steering wheel i was going to install without the airbag

Or can i swap my airbag in my steering wheel into the new steering wheel?

FWIW the airbag is installed on, but not a part of the steering wheel.

Just cruise control buttons bad? That's fairly common for that style, mine is in need of it's second set in 25 years (they're in a box around here somewhere). First set the body broke, this set has deteriorated and going like yours. No reason to replace the entire steering wheel, just replace the switch assemblies. They aren't that expensive and bolt to the steering wheel body behind the air bag.

Pull the battery cables and give a few minutes for residual to discharge. (Second part probably not necessary, but doesn't hurt.) Remove the air bag from the steering wheel, disconnect and set to side. Unscrew the cruise control pods from the wheel and unplug from the clock spring. Reverse for installation.

If for some reason you do need to replace the steering wheel, the part number you linked is the correct replacement for your truck. You would remove your existing air bag as part of removal, and install on the new steering wheel duringreassembly.
