Can anyone set the facts straight here on the proper cylinder head torque specs for a 2001 3.0 Ranger? One method is the 5 step (37 ft lbs, loosen 1 turn, 22 ft lbs, 90 degrees, 90 degrees).

Method 2:

1. Step 1: 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).

2. Step 2: Loosen the bolts one full turn.

3. Step 3: 40 ft. lbs. (55 Nm).

4. Step 4: 63 ft. lbs. (85 Nm).

I have a torque rotation meter, and would put it to good use here if necessary. So which method is recommended by Ford for the 01 Ranger? Thanks!

I just rebuilt my 1999 ranger 3.0 and if I remember right the head bolt torque was something like

step 1: 27 ft/lb

step 2: loosen 1 turn

step 3: 73 ft/lb

My Haynes manual says to follow method 2 as you posted for all 99 and up 3.0's. Except it gives ranges for steps 3 and 4. For step 3, it says torque to 34-40 ftlbs, and for step 4, it says 63-73 ftlbs. Make sure you follow the proper torque sequence as well.
