I also own a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire for a daily driver. The speedometer will read higher than normal when it is cold out. Even with the a/c on for a while the speedometer will still do this. It will continue until it is maxed out. I can return it to 0 by cycling the key on and off however it only moves back about 5 km/h at a time. My question: Is there any way to cure this issue? Worst case scenario I go grab a new cluster from the wrecker. Just don't know if a used cluster has the same issues but gotta start somewhere.

You mention your AC...

Do you mean that when you run the AC, the speedo gets all messed up?(in addition to when its cold?)

So when you turn the car off, it drops about 5km/hr, and thats it?

Honestly, if thats the only problem, I would just leave it alone. These cars are not worth spending the time and effort to fix anything thats not required to drive - as long as your engine and tranny are doing good, be happy.

Between two friends and two Caviliers, I have seen 3 blown engines, one blown head, and countless other smaller issues. They are worth very little used for a reason... My friend just bought a 2001 with like 110 000 km for $1100. Needed a good clean, but otherwise certainly well worth the money. Anyone asking blue-book value for one of these should be stabbed though...

Its just when I cycle the key on and off the speedo will drop. And basically when it is cold in ambient temperature whether it is cold outside or due to the a/c the speedo gets messed up. I might just at least try a new cluster if I can find a cheap one. I like to know how fast I am going lol.
