Hey guys
So I have a 2000 ranger project that I have been chipping away at over time, single cab short bed 2wd with the 2.5l. I am very interested in swapping in a 2.5l duratec 4 cylinder (very similar to the duratec 2.3 motor that goes into the later 01+ 4 cylinder rangers). My question is, was there anything the factory did to the frame to accomodate the newer duratec/mzr engine going from the old single cam unit? Or if I wanted to do this swap could I just use 2.3 duratec mounts and it would be a relitavley easy swap? Any info you have is appreciated! Hope I'm being descriptive enough

No, I don't want a 302.

Duratec is a Ford "Brand"

The Mazda L 23NS engine was the Rangers 2.3l Duratec, and there was also a Mazda L 2.5l 4cyl engine, but I don't think it was ever used in Rear Wheel drive vehicle, just FWD.
It is just a stroked 2.3l Mazda L so motor mounts and transmission from 2.3l Mazda L will bolt up, not sure on cooling system and exhaust matchups.
The transmission bolt pattern is unique for the Mazda L engines.

There was also a 2.5l Duratec V6 engine, 1993–2002

So as far as engine fitment goes it should be a piece of cake provided I get the bellhousing and mounts from the newer rangers?

Yes, if Ford could make the 23NS work then you should be able to make the 25EW work, same block from what I read, just different crank and rods.

bell housings don't detach, you need the whole transmission

Welp, I think my old trans needed some work anyways :)

Real ignorant question to follow. Would it matter if the motor came out of an automatic trans or a manual trans vehicle, going into a vehicle that does have a manual trans?

No, on the engine itself, but you do need a Flywheel for the engine using the manual trans, a Flexplate would be on an engine with an automatic

Cool thanks for the info. Ill be pulling out the old crap once I see some cooler weather around here
