I just replaced a 1999 4x4 Ranger with a 2003 4x4 Ranger. I want to install manual hubs on the 2003. (I know all about the weaknesses of this hub design)
Is the steering knuckle for the 1999 4x4 and the 2003 4X4 the same unit so that a 2003 knuckle will accept a 1999 wheel bearing assembly? I am not going to feed the vacuum into the hub so those passages won't be necessary.

I'm assuming you have the PVH hubs and CV shafts out of your '99.

The physical hole in the knuckle/bolt holes for the hubs are identical, with the exception of the hole/tube for the vacuum (which is why the majority of us are able to change from PVH to live axles).

So, if you have all the pieces for the PVH hubs, go for it.

Hi Don,
Thanks for this answer. I have ordered the new 1999 axles and hubs so I will be able to install the AVM hubs.

So did you manage to make the swap to manual lockers?
