Theres a member on here who has two of them. They are really cool but 40 mile range makes them pretty useless for anything. The rear has portal axles, always wondered how fast or torquey they were. The payload is also almost nothing since the batteries take up most of it. Id love one just for the cool factor but in reality its just useless.

These were a bit ahead of their time

Ford was testing the electric waters for mechanical and technical issues, and the Rangers below bed area was big enough for the batteries available at that time, and light enough to get 60-80miles on 1 charge

Most were Fleet Leases and returned and destroyed
But a few were purchased after lease was up

He was putting newer batteries in one of them, I wonder how that effects range.

These were not really made for general road use, at the time there were electric golf carts and little else to use around larger manufacturing plants or yards
They served a purpose, and could be used outdoors or indoors, 0 emissions
And they could carry larger loads but maybe not heavier loads, lol

They could be used on the road, so street legal, by meter readers, or ??? that did a loop daily that was less than the 60mile range

So they were not useless, but were 'specific use' vehicles

Yea i saw that, he doesn't post alot but I kept track of his stuff. He was upgrading the charging system too. Like ron said they were never ment to be production vehicles, they were an experiment and suppose to be destroyed from what I understand.

I drive my truck about 30 miles a day when I use it to run errands so an EV ranger would work awesome for me. But I also use it to haul stuff, nothing big but an EV has no bed payload so it wouldn't work. Then my electric energy comes from coal power plants so is the electric motor really cleaner? Its charged by a coal plant, your just passing the emissions off. Is a gas engine cleaner than an electric motor charged by coal?

My 2.3 ranger gets almost 30mpg... whats the watt transfer math nonsense...

Yes, for coal power electricity you need to burn about 2.5 pounds of coal per mile in an electric vehicle(EV), but its still 1/2 of the emissions of gasoline powered
And coal runs $39/ton, or about $.02 a pound, so cost about $.05 a mile if electric company didn't mark it up so much, lol

If gasoline is $1.75/gal and you get 25MPG then it runs $.07 a mile, so cost per mile is about the same but EVs needs far less oil and other fluids per mile

There really is no downside to EV's except the range and disposal of current battery technology
