Hi, need help.

I have been trouble shooting #6 fuse blowing. Its for the transmisssion control switch (OD shutoff switch), Reverse light switch, Digital Trans Range sensor (DTR), and the Pulse Vacum Hublock. This is a 15 amp fuse on the side of the dash.

I have found that the fuse blows when the transmission gear lever is put in 2 (second gear).
Park, its good.......Reverse, good.......Neutral, good.....Drive, good....second, pop! flash! fuse blows.

So I'm thinking its the DTR sensor.
What you guys think??????

Next question..........
my truck is a 2000 3.0 flex,Auto transmission, 4x4, XLT, 4 dr flare side

What Trannsmission do I have?
4R44E?
5R55E?

I thought it had the 4 speed,but........... When looking at NAPA parts online for the DTR sensor. The sensor that looks like mine is for the 5 spd trans.
The part number on my sensor is P7F293. I've looked at other parts sites and they all say this P7F293 sensor is for the 5R55E.

Did Ford put the 5R55E in a 3.0 Ranger?
Thanks, Buzz

You have a 4R44E according to my EVTM.

Do you have tilt wheel?
If so, try different positions.

I have read that the two wires to the OD switch rub at the column end of the stalk.

My diagram shows that fuse 6 goes straight to that switch and then to the PCM. I wouldn't purchase a $50+ DTRS until thoroughly inspecting the wiring to the shifter stalk OD switch, which is known to rub and short/open.

If you'd like to see the wiring schematics, send me a PM with your e-mail address. You need to look at pages 29-1 through 29-4 once you get the (very large) file that I will send.

I do have tilt colum.

I do have 2000EVTM. You already sent this to me, when having problem with abs system. Thank you for that.
What does EVTM stand for?

I see what you are talking about on page 29-2, that #6 15amp goes to trans control switch (TCS), then on to the PCM.

But I also found wiring schematic that shows#6 15amp going to the Trans control switch, TCS, Daytime run lamps, Digital trans range, and to the Pulse vacum hublock.
I found that in the file you sent me. Towards the end of the file. The schematic is labeled, on the top of page.......Dec 07 2006 P. 15/19. Take a look. These 19 pages look differnt than all the others.

After looking at P. 29-2, I think if I can find, and disconect the C136 connector than would isolate, and disconnect circuit to the TCS. Then check to see if the fuse blows. What you think?

Will not be disconnecting C136. Its a big one with about 30 wires!!
I will start looking for C207 under the dash or in the colum, that should be a small one.

Disconnect the DTRS and shift it.

See if the fuse blows.

The DTRS is just a resistor for each position.
Doubt that is your issue.

Moving the shifter moves the "known to chafe and short" OD switch wires.
I wouldn't call it common, but likely.

Found C207 connector under dash, and after disconnect the fuse didnt blow.:yahoo:

I removed cover off of sterring colum and found were the wire had been wore by rubbing on base of shifter handle. :headbang:

A little black tape, and rerouted wire and all is good.:icon_thumby:

I did try disconnecting the DTR first.

Thanks you very much Earl.
