Hello Bill here and new to the forum,and new to the ranger world with my 2000 3 liter 2wd. Also new to the 4x4 world and am thinking about a dana 44 front axle swap.I printed up the dana 44 info and it seams like the best front axlw to find is a high pinion one out of a f150 if I don't mind narrowing it, yes? Or is the bronco one better because I don't have to narrow it.If I am going to convert I want what would be stronger, I work at a fab shop and can do all the fab work, just want to spend the money once and do it correct the first time, any help would be appricated.

Early Bronco 44s are narrower, low pinion, have smaller shafts and joints and getting harder to find. They also only came with disc brakes for 2 years (76-77), but can be converted to disc using fullsize parts.

Larger shafts and joints are available aftermarket, but it adds cost.

A narrowed HP is probably the way to go unless you find screaming deal on an EB axle. With a narrowed HP you only have to buy one aftermarket shaft.

This is coming from someone running a 75 EB 44 that was converted to disc and larger shafts.....but like I said if the price is right they are not a bad choice IMO.
