Alright guys i really need to help on this one.
I have a 2000 2wd 4cyl manual ranger.
i just came across a 97 explorer 5.0efi with trans.
From what ive read my truck and the explorer both DO NOT have pats.
and if i understand right it just be a complete plug and play job.
One of the only things im worried about is i want to keep it manual.
Im not really sure what trans i would need.

I think ill have to run a return fuel line.

They engine comes with

engine
computer
wiring harness
oil filter relocator
new motor mounts ( im not sure if i need that)
Ranger swap headers(thats what he said, im not sure what he means by that)
radiator

What do you guys think?
Is there anything that i should know. or is it really as easy as it seems.

Plug and play...Not really.

Since the explorers were autos and not made with manuals, you will have to get your computer redone to "make it" a manual computer.

Any 5.0 trans will work or even the m5od-2 that the f150s had, the bellhousing bolt holes will need drilled out for the larger 5.0 bolts but same pattern.

There allot of explorer 5.0 swaps in here and those.build threads should help you answer a few of your questions.

Im definitely going to keep reading up on it.
I had no idea i was going to need the computer to be "redone" to make it a manual computer.
so thank you for that info.

Is that something that i would do after it was all put together and would that be something that i need the dealer to do?

I recently converted my 2000 4x4 3.0L manual transmission to a 5.0L out of an explorer. This is the short version of what I did.

302 with engine mounts, wiring harness, computer, pats and keys from the explorer - explorer
m5od-r2 from a 91 F150 - junk yard
flywheel and starter from a 95 f150 - auto parts place
rear axel from the explorer (8.8) - explorer
2x 12" electric fans with thermostat and relay - ebay

I could have used different years for some of the stuff, that is just what I came by.

- You can't use the starter from the explorer on a manual transmission. There is a difference between a starter for an automatic and for a manual.
- The shifter doesn't line up with the original hole if you go with the same tranny I did. It will be a little farther forward. I modified my shifter to make it work.
- If you are going to pay someone to mod the computer for a manual transmission, you can have them remove the pats requirement at the same time.
- I had to mod the brake lines on the axel and move the spring mounts. Not a big deal.
- I did not have to drill the bellhousing out, my bolts fit fine.

I am probably missing something, can't remember for sure. I am not on here very often, just an FYI.

Good luck!
