hey guys
im doing a 4wd conversion on my truck..i am going to the junkyard soon.can someone please tell me all the parts i am going to need.and what axle i should put in.it has a 8.8 28 spline in the back.its a 93 ford ranger 4.0 2wd .
thanks
ryan

you might as well buy a parts truck to do the swap or trade your truck for a 4wd truck.

You will need:
Beam brackets
Engine crossmember
Transmission
Transfer case
Front driveshaft
Rear driveshaft
Front axle

And probably a few other parts

The general consensus around here is that it's not worth converting a 4x2 to 4x4. Swapping the engine crossmember alone requires you to spread the frame rails apart to get it out and get the new one in.

Unless you're thinking about a SAS with a manual transfer case, then I would say it's more doable. If you only want a stock (TTB) 4x4, then sell/trade your truck and get one. It'll save a lot of work/hassle.

It can be worth it on a B2 since you only have to change the passenger beam bracket, but all the work to swap a whole engine cross-member in a ranger you might as well buy a 4x4.

Or any 1st or 2nd Gen Ranger all that needs to change in the passanger side drop bracket.

Wrong, The engine crossmember is different, Neither beam bracket will bolt. If you were going to do a 6" lift custom lift brackets could be made. The spring buckets are also different on gen 1 and 2.
I think the 2wd frame is a little easier to do a sas on. Depends on how you do it though.
All BIIs had 4x4 frames, the two wheel drive had gutted 4x4 beams and transfer case.

Im thinking of doing the same kind of swap in a 95 ranger. Does any 1 know if I get a 6in lift for a 4x4 ranger will every thing bolt in or do I still have to replace the engine crossmember? I do have an entire parts truck.

no, you will still have to swap the engine crossmember. Good luck finding a 4wd 2.3 transmission

The drop brackets would have to be custom made but, with 6" of lift everthing would clear. The left beam bracket would be close, it would just take a little modification. The right one would be bolted to air.
