Hey yall, back with more issues.
Truck is a 01 3.0 automatic 4wd.

First off, my small water leak turned into a super soaker yesterday. After looking around I found it. So I was just going to try moving the house up and putting a new clamp on, but as soon as I moved it the connector broke off. Before I can replace it though, I need to know what it is. Not too handy when it comes to trucks, but hopefully someone can help.

Next problem,
I've got an idle that's rough as hell, but smooths out as I acclerate. Truck doesn't have hardly any power though. I've replaced plugs, wires, coil pack, cleaned the MAF, IAC, and EGR with no luck. Also ran injector cleaner and seafoam through it. Finally got the codes off it, and its showing EGR and cylinder 6 misfire. I know the EGR is opening properly, just not sure if its closing all the way. Now I've heard a bad egr can throw a random misfire code, but would it have that big of an effect on the performance?

I'll upload the pictures in just a second of the first part I'm talking about.
Thanks,
Jake

Yes, open EGR will cause what you describe.
EGR valve only opens when RPM is up and engine is under load, otherwise engine will run rough and lack power.

Well there are only 4 hoses on most engines, upper and lower radiator hoses and the two heater hoses, these can run into a "Bypass valve", which would have 2 more hoses running to the heater connection at the firewall.
These cost about $20, also called a Heater Control Valve

Well i can't get my pictures to upload, but the hose branches off the lower radiator hose, and comes up by where the upper radiator hose runs too, it also has a clip on the other side, that soubd about right?
Thanks again

Okay after a lot of googling, the piece I'm looking for is the little fitting that the coolant temp sensor screws into. any idea what that thing is called, or where I can find one?

Try this part number and see if that's the part
Google: ford F77Z-18599-AA

Seems to be a common failure point on that engine.

$30 at a dealer

That's it. got it at the dealer and have the old one off. It came off pretty east since the side that goes into the hose broke off, but any ideas how to get the new one in? Looks like I'm gonna have to get a few things out of the way.

Well, I got that elbow put in, had to move the ac line and move the whole power steering bracket to get the damn thing in there, but I guess it was a good learning experience. Also put in a new EGR and it made a huge difference. No more hesitation around 40-50, and the idle in park is 10 times better. still a funny idle when in gear and foot on the brake, but still better. Any idea what that could be? I reset the codes to get the light off, so we'll see if it comes back on. Thanks again for all the help yall.

Good job :icon_thumby:

Yes, I have read that part is a PITA to install, have to remove the front of the engine just to screw it in.

Did you reset the computer or just clear the codes?
I would do a reset since you got all those new parts on, can take 50-100 miles to relearn engine parameters with the new or changed sensors.

Can of Seafoam in the fuel tank($8) can smooth out an idle.
I use it once a year.
Takes a few days but I always notice a difference, maybe my engines are addicted to it now, lol.

Injectors spray the fuel for best fuel/air mix, when the spray nozzles get dirty they drip at idle, not spray, this can cause random missing, you feel it more in gear.
Seafoam and other injector cleaners, cleans off the varnish that builds up normally.
Most premium gas has injector cleaner as an additive, I prefer regular and a can of Seafoam once a year :)

I tries the seafoam and lucas, but i only put about a third of the can in the gas tank. So I can just pour a whole can in there? Best to do it with a full tank or not a lot? May just need to replace that injector. How much do those usually run?

It should say on the can, how many gallons of fuel for a whole can, I fill the tank and add the whole can.

Hard to replace just 1 injector because you wouldn't know which one, and Ford often Batch Fire the injectors, so on a V6 3 injectors fire at the same time, so it isn't like a spark plug, well lol, Ford fires 2 spark plugs at the same time so maybe it is.
Generally it's $20-$30/each to swap old injectors for rebuilt.
