Coil Spring Removal Tools
Hello,
To make this as painless as possible, have the following on hand:
Maintenance manual or a source for fastener torques
Leather gloves
Deep impact socket set (I think it is 1 1/8")
18"-24" of socket extensions
an Impact tool (gun, air powered or electric)
Torque wrench(s)
some replacement locking pins (cotter pins) for the steering linkage/drag link if you need to get some more play out of the front to pop out the coil top
you will also need a jack, jack stands, wheel lug nut removal tool, a set of pliers or beefy flat tip screwdriver to bend the top coil retainer tab, some penetrating oil (to loosen it up) and some antisieze compound (afterwords, to keep it from becoming a pain for the next time)
Don't be surprised to find that your coil spring lower pad or holder is damaged, they don't cost very much
I work slow, I can change a set of coils in 3 hours with an impact tool, job done ready to drive (including toilet and refreshment breaks); without the impact tool it has taken me up to 3 hours per coil retaining nut alone.
