Finally got back into the world of owning a p/u when I got my moms 2001 F150 Crew 4x4 with 118000 for a good price...free. Runs great and she was a stickler about having all service and maintanance done according to manuf specs.. Recently took it on a 900mi road trip and loved it til we got within 20 miles of home and engine started "chugging" under acceleration. Next morning the service engine light came on after about 15min of driving. Hoping maybe I had picked up some bad gas or moisture I put 18gal of fuel in with a bottle of fuel system treatment/cleaner and headed home to pull the codes. Came up with a P0125 and P0301. Cleared the codes and within 30 miles roughness began to disappear and no more codes. About 300mi later, and 75mi into another trip the lite came back on. Pulled code and again P0125. So heres my question(s)...I know what the codes are but is it possible they are related? Also, for the p0125, which route would you suggest first (after checking fluid level of course) replacing therm or replacing the sensor?

For years the members of this forum were lifesavers when it came to my Ranger so Im hoping the trend will continue with this new toy.

Thnx

I doubt they are particularly related. I'm willing to bet that your engine is flooding itself from a bad temp reading.

The 301 code is a misfire and may be secondary to an extreme rich condition but I would expect something more of a P0300 for that.

Throw a coolant temp sensor at it and a spark plug in #1.

P0125 is generally caused by the following:

Insufficient warm up time
Low engine coolant level
Leaking or stuck open thermostat
Faulty coolant temperature sensor

If it isn't low on coolant, I'd look into the possibility of it being your thermostat. I'd definitely check that before buying a new sensor when you have no idea if that is the problem or not.
