I'm in the middle of changing the heads on my 86 ford ranger 2.9L V6.
Have it tore down to the block and currently reinstalling the valves on the replacement heads.
After reading my repair manual I realized I never cranked the engine into the position suggested before taking it apart.

Will this cause problems after reinstalling the heads and firing it up?

you have to ensure the block is at TDC(Top dead center prior to putting it back together. It will make it alot easier to drop the distributor in and get it timed properly. Look at the timing marks on the front of the engine and se tit of fof that. After the head is on ensure both valves on number 1 cylinder are closed. you can tell by the ease of rotating the push rods. when you install the distributor drop i tin lined up with the wires set in the proper firing order and you should be good to go.

Yeah, won't break anything, just do like aspevacek said, spin the crank over until the #1 piston is at the top. Then get the cam set so your valves are closed on cyl 1.

Thanks for the help guys. I finished up the swap today and it fired up. Running much better than with the old heads
