Looking at buying a 1996 Ford Explorer to do my 4.0L swap. Now I have read that 95 and newer Explorers are more difficult donor vehicles for the swap...is this just because of the wiring harness? If so, can this be avoided by using a wiring harness from a 89-92 Ranger with the 4.0L (my rig is a 1992 Ford Ranger with a 2.9L and A4LD). Also if this is the case, would it pretty much be a plug and play with the 92 Ranger 4.0L harness? Thanks for all the help, much appreciated.

If you get the 92 4.0 harness, it'll be plug & play - everything will plug up perfectly except the cam position sensor on the 96 engine (don't need it in the 92 as it's batch fire and get's it's spark and fuel timing from the crank sensor)

Be sure and get the PCM from the 92 4.0 also.............

i agree except you might need to move a few wires around in the big plug that goes to the dash harness if the optioning is different on the trucks.
