2.9L to 4.0L ECM QUESTION

So i am having a difficult time finding a 1992 Ford Ranger ECM for a manual transmission. I can find a 1992 Explorer, but its for an automatic, i need a manual so my ECM isnt throwing codes. My question is can i use a differant year ECM from the same 4.0L OHV engine??

90 to early 94 should all work ok. As long as you don't get something that had EGR.

how do i know if the vehicle had EGR or not? I have been using a pick n pull for my items for the swap and idk if they have that information

I can tell you that a 1994 with the tear tag code HAG0 was non-EGR.
