I'm sure there is something in this forum to help me but I just dont have the time to go threw every thread so first off sorry for that.

Ok, I just bought a complete 89 ranger x-cab for the cab for my new project and the guy told me it has a good running 2.9 in it. Only problem is he parked it and it has never ran again. It turns over, has spark, and the fuel pump is workin but it will not start. I thought for sure it was the inertia switch so I unbolted it and made it go off and reset it but still nothing. One thing I did notice was when I reset it the ball is was still bouncin around abit or loose inside the switch, could that be the prob. Sorta doesnt make sence tho cause the pump still seems to be running. Doesnt really matter if I dont get it running since I'll be strippin it anyways but I figured if it was something easy I would get it running.

I have this Exact same problem with my 2.9L as well. I have pulled my hair out enough trying to figure it out and still have not found the problem. If you figure it out, please let me know what you did to fix it

Ok so I got it running........sorta. I bypassed the interia but I dont think that was the problem at all. When I hook the gas pedal right to the floor it runs but just barely, almost sounds like it isnt running on the the cylinders and wont rev over 500. I noticed the dis cap is in rough shape so I'm gonna replace that and see what happens. If that doesnt help im thinking fuel pump but I can smell major fuel so I dont kno. Anyone have any input?

I would rule out a fuel filter long before replacing a pump that is obviously still running. Try spraying starting fluid in the intake and turn it over. If it fires up and then shuts off it's a fuel issue.
