ive got an 88 b2 with a 2.9 and a a4ld trans from an early explor...it wont rev up except in netural, ive replaced the fuel pump, filter and pressure reg along with air and water temp sensors also getting carbon buildup on my plugs and intake.im not getting any trouble codes :dunno:and im running out of money to through at this thing any help would be appreciated:icon_confused:

So does it just die when you put it in gear? What about park?

it idles fine but step on the gas and it just bogs down in all gears except netural. takes forever to get up to speed when im driveing

could my problem stem from installing a 4.0 a4ld trans behind my 2.9 motor
since it runs fine in neutral and this started happening soon after i installed my trans:icon_confused:

Not sure if this will be any help but my bronco II with a 5 speed would idle and rev up out of gear but down the highway it would not rev and had no power. I found that the cats were plug up. Hope this helps

ill check the cat out this weekend im also gona replace the 02 sensor went through some deep water it may have shorted it out

if it shorted there would be a code. stop throwing parts at it. unhook the manifolds from the y pipe and drive it to see if things change.

Which torque converter did you use? I imagine they would be of different stall speeds and the 2.9 needs rpm to make its power. Auto's are not something I know much about but that was all I could think of.

I was also thinking a torque converter issue too, but more along the lines of it being stuck on...I think (and I may be wrong) that either converter will work as long as you have the right flex plate to go with it.

its just a stock 4.0 tc dont know what the stall speed is but i know other people that have run this same set up with no problems

This is the first thing that came to mind as well, that and to double check that no wires were smashed between the engine and trans if installed separate. Not sure about o2 if it also does this cold, you could always try and unhook it to see if it helps.

With all of the componets replaced in the fuel system, did you ever get a chance to actually test the fuel pressure?

Pete

im going to mess with it this weekend check all the wires, cat, ect ect and if i dont get anywere ill take it to a buddys shop hes got all the equiptment there to test everything i just hate going there cause its a 60mile trip. im just looking for some ideas was hopeing that this problem had happened to someone else on here...between my trans going out and now this my B2 has been down 2 months:bawling: im ready to get this thing back on the road and i appreciate everyones input

My 88 BII auto is kinda doggy when in gear as well, I just figured it needed a timing advance.

Im running no cats at all.....

cats turned out ok.i disconnected the 02 sensor and it rev in every gear took it for a test drive and it launched. still didnt give me an error code, the only thing is that it idles ruff now so is my 02 sensor bad or is there something else causeing my 02 sensor not to work. im going to pick one up tommorrow if no one else has any ideas:D

How do you get away with that out there? I thought Maine was one of the ultra anal inspection states?
