Alright, so i've got an '89 ranger that had the 2.9 in it. I swapped in a 4.0 from a '91 ranger. I am having huge wiring issues. I am using the 2.9 stock harness, and the 4.0 engine harness ,and am trying to adapt the two together. I have already plugged the 4.0 computer into the stock 2.9 harness. The two plugs on my alternator also clipped on. Besides that, there is one black 8 prong connector that hooks up to the the 4.0 harness. I am not sure if it is correct or not.

Which wires do i splice together ? I have a complete 2.9, and a complete 4.0 wiring diagram. Where do i start ? Im really losing motivation, but i NEED to get this done for friday. I am unsure as to what each connector does.Any help is appreciated !! Thanks !

It will never work that way.

You seem to have have neglected the 4.0's ignition module which is integrated into
the 4.0 engine bay harness and mounted to the header (radiator support)
between the battery and the passenger side headlamp.

2.9 to 4.0 harness help

I put a 91 4.0 2wd auto in my 914x4 m50d. The problem I'm having is with the 4x4 working. I understand I put a2wd auto harness on the truck and my truck is 4x4 stick. But I know I was able to wires nss back to get the pedal to work correctly again. So I'm assuming that there's away that I can wire the 4x4 push button to work. I would appreciate anything you guys could help me with cause I'm getting pretty confused and I'm not really having anything luck with getting any wiring diagrams or answers on how to fix this problem. Thanks guys for your time.
