2.9 to 3.0 litre swap

me and a buddy took a closer look at the motor i bought and i think it might be a 96. how much more difficult would this be to swap in.there was a little tag on the drivers side of the block that hade a date of either 01 or 10 1 96 i think

96 is OBD2 and will be a PITA to use. Find a 91-94. So far it looks like I'll only have to splice a handfull of wires on my 94 4.0, and no, I'm not using the power distribution box.

My '87 Ranger uses the stock 2.9 wiring harness with just a couple of sensor wires extended. It uses an '87 Aerostar manual trans computer, The Aerostar bellhousing, and the Aerostar intake manifold. The Oil pump, oil pan, motor mounts and exhaust manifolds need to come from a 4x4 Ranger.
The 4.0 is FAR more difficult to connect. The wiring harnesses are COMPLETELY different and has to be patched together to work.
The 3.0 is defiantly an acquired taste though, most here don't have the ability to appreciate one.
As far as the carb goes, it is the same thing, simpilton morons can't make them work properly so, they become evil. A properly tuned carb can pass the emissions sniffer far easier, with no added emissions equipment, then any factory fuel injection system. The fuel injection system is however more difficult for an idiot to screw up messing with it UNTIL he starts chopping into wiring. Also, carbs continue to win more races EVERYDAY then efi systems.
