i have a new engine in my b2. its got prob 2000 miles and was running strong. but after i played in the water yesterday she developed a small tick. nothing like piston slap but it always makes me wonder. i had to stay on the gas harder than usual due to the water level in the river but nothing crazy. i have been told that sometimes with a new engine the rockers could come loose after some high rpms...

ohh and it has a mild cam in it as well. anything i can check?

how deep was the water???
check your oil for water...whitish milk shake snot.
maybe worth your piece of mind to just change the oil and filter.
If original oil &filter after the OH, DEFINATLY Change it.

as far as not running as well....recheck the timing. it might of gotten off a bit.

If the timing and the oil change don't get it better, then look into retorqueing the heads and rockers.

funny thing, i changed the oil this morning with a new filter and all obviously. it looked dark, but smooth. a few bubbles, (i'd assume water) but when i forged the river the water never got over the rocker panels. so i couldn't see how that affected anything. i have a "snorkle" on it so it won't suck water unless its over the hood.

to make things worse, i got to the river to play today, and just as i was about to hit the water, she started running really rough. coughing and sputtering and spitting. wouldn't die, but wouldn't take any throttle. i shut it off and then i couldn't get her to start for a min. loud knocking, sounded like what i would expect if a rocker was completely loose. but i took off the valve covers while i was there and they werent loose, neither was the pushrods. then i got it started and she ran fine almost all the way home. tryed to load up a little sometimes but nothing real bad.

now i talked with my mechanic (the guy that installed the 2.9) he said i can take the valve cover off, start the engine and feel which rocker is loose. then tighten it 3/4 of a turn. if i can't feel which one it is he said to loosen all of them and take it 3/4 of a turn passed where the tick stops... does this sound right? or is there any better way to do this?

also keep in mind that i have a sunpro oil pressure gauge, and its never been low....

ok so i got the tick mostly solved.. it was a loose rocker. and now it runs better than before. so i must have done something right.

my only question now is, every now and then my truck would run great and then start running like shit for no reason. won't take throttle and idle very rough. first thing to check is the idle air control right? my manual doesn't specify which connector it is. i think its the one that bolts up to the throttle body... am i correct?

AHHummm...no:huh:
glad to hear that you got your tic under control.

what is on the side of the throttle body is the throttle position sensor TPS,
the AIC is in middle of the upper intake on the passanger side, kinda around long round deal with a electrical connection towards the firewall, 2 bolts hold it on.

ok so i now know which one is the AIC. but after some more investigation i think it might be the ignition control module? seems like if the engine is cold it runs fine, but after she warms up it goes to hell. i'm getting frusterated with this damned truck, and worse yet i have to leave for a job for 12 days starting tomorrow, so it just gonna gnaw at the back of my mind while i'm away... grrr

YES... faulty TFI or ignition module will produce poor running conditions as they warm up.

have a good trip.

i think i'll work on relocating the ignition control module. my engine is bored over and that engine bay gets kinda hot during the summer here in az..

thanks for the help so far! hopefully it will end my troubles
