2.9 singel 3in exhaust

Headers really won't make much of a difference. Leave the cats alone. They do NOT reduce performance, but they DO improve emissions.

2.5 is the biggest i would go and don't remove the cats you might actually lose performance

sorry the cats where lost about 4 years past I let my brother wheel my truck she's never been the same. Thanks for info

u can pull the cats off and hollow them out with a hammer and a metal rod or something like that. thats what i did, my 02 sensor still works and runs fine. I have 2 1/4 inch single pipe all the ways back with a 40 series. After hollowing my cat out it made it sound way better. But its up to you, i would do 2 1/4 inch pipe.

This works on older trucks with upstream o2 sensors only, if you have a sensor after the converter you may incur problems.

If he already doesn't have the cats under there I see no sense in finding a set and pounding the mesh out of them. He will be fine with pipe all the way as long as his state doesn't do tailpipe emissions testing. Otherwise there are aftermarket highflow converters available that aren't overly pricey ($100 or less last I checked)

i have a 2.9 with a hollowed cat (until emissions time comes) with a 2.5" single chamber flowmaster and its too much. it needs the cat on their for at least a little back pressure. i would say 2.25" would be best for our tiny 2.9

I did a 3" straight pipe after the first cat in my 86 B2 back in high school. (Both cats were hollowed out when i got it, and didn't have emissions testing for where I lived) It sounded good (I thought at the time) But it was LOUD as hell. There wasn't any change in power.
