Hey Guys,
I'm about to start my rebuild, block's been machined, heads redone and have the rebuild parts on my bench.
I've also purchased pacesetter headers.
Question I have is, the stock exhaust manifolds had the tube that runs from it to the exhaust gas oxygen sensor. The header don't have a port for the tube. What do you do with the exhaust gas oxygen sensor insert area for the tube? Just plug it with a bolt or what?
Does it do anything with the computer or not?
Thanks,
d9n

you have a tube for the O2 sensor?? or not?

yes the O2 sensor does feed back to the engine computer!....one of the major players as sensors go.

are you sure that it isn't the EGR?? what year are you rebuilding?

87' ranger 2.9, it's the tube that runs from the driver's side stock exhaust manifold to the front driver's side sensor behind the throttle body on the intake. The EGR sensor at the bottom of the header on the passenger side is there.

try a upper intake off of a newer 2.9 that doesnt have the tube or block off the port on the intake

The EGR sensor at the bottom of the header on the passenger side is there.

In the collector down right by the cat? That's the oxygen sensor.

They're just for the wrong year. I don't know if you could have something welded into the pace setters or not to hook up the EGR tube, I am pretty sure it needs to be in a particular place.. It may run a little bad if it's not right. Another option you might look into is converting over to '90 MAF PCM w/ no EGR, or even a sd/map '88 PCM (no EGR either). You would need the block off plate (factory piece) for the intake side to completely remove it.

On the later model 2.9's there is a plate that bolts on with the two bolts on the intake, that covers the hole.

But then again the later models don't have the EGR valve so I am not sure what compensates for it, but I do know the port on the intake is just plated off.

hey guys, here's the area of parts I'm asking about.
What do you do after I install the headers and the tube's gone. What do I do with the EGR threaded insert area?
